My name is Juan C. Aravena and I’ve been interested in photography since my youth, quite a lot of years if you start counting.
When i started with photography it was black and white photography, mostly with Tri-X films, that interested me the most. The motive was the city- and night life and I used long exposure times when taking the photos. To experiment in the photo lab was a experience in it self , I used all kind of materials to create filter effects – pieces of glass with different textures and cloths etc. Neither the cameras I used then or the optics was of any quality to speak of and I can’t call what i did then for any masterpieces but i was I time when i learned much about photography and it was a start of a interest that has followed me thru out the years.
As time went by I could afford better cameras and optics and some years after that, the digital revolution did the rest. The enlarger was stuffed away in the garage and I haven’t missed it much and the negative archive is rather waiting for a scanner than for the old Durst. To be honest: I prefer sitting in front of the Mac compared to in the dark with smelly chemicals. Further more – the ISO-values of today in cameras and in photo editing programs is perfect tools for creating the nostalgic grained effect that you some times want.
As for today the sharpness is my main “focus”, and nature and landscape is the main target for my photography. Despite that I don’t want to call me a nature photographer instead I prefer variation in my motives where the light decides where I point my camera. If the lighting outside is not optimal I can spend some hours using my macro optics to photograph flowers at home.
The target of this site is to show you photographs that i have taken the last years and that are most representative for my interest in photography.
So – Welcome to this homepage. I hope you will find my photos interesting and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
